Winter Is Coming....Time for Work Gloves

It is starting to become that time…leaves are falling, temperatures are dropping, and people are starting to look forward to the upcoming holiday seasons. With the beginning of fall there is also the reminder of safety and how important it is to protect ourselves from the winter weather conditions.

There is never a time when hand safety should not be remembered. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.138 states that employees are required to wear hand protection whenever hands are exposed to hazards. Hazards include harmful substances, severe cuts or lacerations, punctures, chemical burns, thermal burns, temperature extremes, or severe abrasions. OSHA suggests that hand protection should be chosen depending on the tasks that are supposed to be performed, the conditions that are present, and the duration that the gloves are going to be used along with the potential hazards that could be involved.

Work gloves should have certain requirements. Some of the requirements of a quality work glove are: the fit should be secure, the fit should never interfere with dexterity, they should be durable, and they should be able to be disinfected or cleaned.

Thankfully, with the cold months quickly approaching, there is no need to scramble for these mandatory specifications that are required for maximum productivity and comfort on the job.

  1. Cut Resistant Gloves – Gloves that are made from high quality fibers which are tightly woven in order to provide maximum protection when you are in a job that requires the use of knives or sharp tools.

  1. Chemical Resistant Gloves – Gloves that are used in hazardous material environments. These gloves protect against chemicals, abrasions, and punctures.

  1. General Purpose – Gloves that can be used for everyday chores such as painting furniture or gardening. These gloves can be dipped or coated for extra protection.

  1. Leather – Gloves that are used when working in environments that have rough objects, sparks, or intense heat variations. They are also a second line of defense against hard blows.

  1. High Performance- Designer gloves that offer the best quality of safety and comfort.

  1. Disposable- Gloves that can be powdered or non-powdered and are often found in emergency rooms, light hazardous environments, and rescue.

  1. Winter- Gloves that provide your hands the extra warmth and comfort during the winter months without sacrificing dexterity and durability.

Weather can affect the amount of accidents that can occur because of temperature drops and more overcast conditions. It is never too soon to be proactive about protecting yourself against human conditions…as well as Mother Nature’s. Visit Utility Safeguard and explore the possibilities!
